What happens when you convert a factory into a stellar hotel?
Long ago, Heritance Tea Factory in Nuwara Eliya, was a tea factory. It has now been converted into a hotel. Heritance Group renovated the interiors of the property and created a world-class stay option.
Stunning views, interesting concept, wonderful experience and comfortable rooms – all of these features make this property a must-visit. Although there is no swimming pool in the property, but there are many more features that would keep you interested.
Mind-Boggling Surroundings
The Heritance Tea Factory is located in Nuwara Eliya. It is surrounded by a tea garden! This tea garden is called the Hethersett Plantation. You can breathe fresh air and look at the clear skies. In fact, travellers can clearly see Pidurutalagala, tallest mountain of Sri Lanka from this stellar property.
Surrounding AreaThe main lobby of the hotel is stunning, but you may find it a little dark. Perhaps the structure and the materials used for making the building makes it a little dark and dingy. You can also buy tea products from the lobby area. Check-in is smooth, but we were happy to wait at the lobby area as there are comfy sofas and heaters to keep you warm and snug.

As a couple, we enjoyed the demonstration of the old machine used for tea making process in 1870s. This is one of the unique features of the hotel. This is a free demonstration for the guests and it happens every evening at 7 PM.
Go towards the side of the property and you will find a mini train station. This is an insta-worthy spot as you can take pictures and videos. There is a train, flower garden, play area for kids and fruits/vegetable garden at the back side of the property.
The mini tea factory inside the property is the most unique feature of this hotel. Do not miss it for the world! The good news is that the demonstration is free of charge.
Different Categories of Rooms at Heritance Tea Factory
Interestingly, there are no rooms in the ground floor. What’s more interesting? There is an old-fashioned lift that takes you to your room. It gives you a new experience as everything in the hotel is unconventional.
All the basic amenities are provided in the bedroom. You may not find the rooms as massive, but the space is good enough for a comfortable stay.
This old-school conventional property has a bathtub in the bathrooms. This is where you can soak in and enjoy a cup of tea!
There are different categories of rooms that you can choose from. It all depends on your personal preference and budget. You can choose from superior rooms, premium king/twin rooms, executive floor, and semi suite. The highest category is the flowerdew suite.
Guests can view the Hethersett Plantation from their room. You can enjoy this view with a glass of champagne or the classic Ceylon tea.
A Worthy Experience
There is a mini bar where they sell tea products. Don’t leave the property without buying something exquisite for your friends and family!
The restaurant, Kenmare, offers a-la-carte and buffet. Located in the ground floor, it is quite rugged and you feel like you are inside a factory. You can also check with the front desk manager about breakfast in the garden. If the weather allows, you can have breakfast in the garden. Food is exquisite! We were amazed by the presentation of the food. The staff were welcoming and served with love and compassion.
Overall, we had a lovely stay at Heritance Tea Factory and would love to come back for another unforgettable experience. It may not have a fancy bathtub or a swimming pool to dip in, but the experience is noteworthy!
